Herder-CES Fellowship

Herder-CES Fellowship for European Studies

The Herder-CES Fellowship for European Studies developed out of the inaugural Minorities, Diversities, Securities symposium of the Columbia-Marburg-Barcelona-Glasgow consortium. The symposium took place on September 28-29, 2017, at the Herder-Institute for the Historical Research on East and Central Europe, Marburg.

CES and the partners mentioned above have initiated this bi-annual symposium after observing that the number of panels at past Europeanist conferences concerning Eastern European studies and, especially, involving scholars from Eastern Europe, still does not reflect the importance of that region for future European developments.

As well, in the course of the Marburg symposium, one of the young research scholars from Eastern Europe will be awarded the new Herder-CES Fellowship. This fellowship comes with a fully financed research stay of one month at the Herder-Institute and Giessen University (Giessen, Hesse, Germany), and includes the necessary funding for participation in the International Conference of Europeanists held from March 28-30, 2018 in Chicago, USA.

With this symposium, and its exciting new fellowship program, we aim to develop theoretical impulses for European studies from that underrepresented angle.
