Membership

Members of the Council for European Studies (CES) provide crucial support for its work and are engaged in innovative and influential research on a wide range of subjects, such as: transatlantic relations, political economy, cultural studies, European integration, nationalism and regionalism, immigration and racism, gender and sexuality, radicalism and violence, social movements, and health and wellbeing. CES members become part of our scholarly networks of Europeanists spanning multiple continents.

CES offers membership to both individuals and institutions. Membership includes many benefits such as eligibility for grants and awards, publication access, research resources, and more. CES is a non-profit, member-led organization and your membership fees help to sustain the organization’s programming, website, staffing and activities across the year.

For full information about the membership benefits available to you, or to become a member, visit the membership pages below.

Professional Lifetime Memberships

CES also offers professional lifetime memberships. Lifetime members significantly support the work of CES. CES acknowledges the following lifetime members. We are grateful for their support for the CES.

  • Julia Lynch, University of Pennsylvania
  • Karen Anderson, University College Dublin
  • Jean Beaman, The Graduate Center, City University of New York
  • Erik Bleich, Middlebury College
  • Christel Kesler, Colby College

New lifetime members will receive recognition at our annual conference. If you are interested in a professional lifetime membership, you can do so using the membership renewal form.

 Refund Policy:
CES membership dues are separate from CES conference registration fees and are generally not refundable, even if you cancel your conference participation. Conference fees are covered by a separate refund policy and are subject to a deadline date. CES membership offers a wide variety of benefits beyond discounted conference registration fees, including eligibility for travel grants and awards, priority or early access to CES events and publications, including a discount on our Understanding Europe Book Series, and networking opportunities with the wider CES community, which includes the opportunity to join one or more of our active Research Networks. We encourage members to be active participants in the organization and refunds are not available for member inactivity. CES also retains the right to charge transaction processing costs for any agreed refund.
