First Article Prize – 2023 Awardees

The Council for European Studies’ (CES) First Article Prize Committee is pleased to announce Julia Lopez Fuentes (National Cathedral School) and Tobah Aukland-Peck (The Graduate Center, CUNY) as the winners of the 2023 European Studies First Article Prize.

Aukland-Peck was awarded the 2023 European Studies First Article Prize in the Humanities for her article “Liquid History: Millbank, London and the Thames Flood of 1928,” published in Grey Room, MIT Press, Issue 91, pp 36–67 in 2023

Lopez Fuentes was awarded the 2023 European Studies First Article Prize in the Social Sciences for her article “A Forgetting for Everyone, by Everyone”? Spain’s Memory Laws and the Rise of the European Community of Memory, 1977–2007, published in The Journal of Modern History, University of Chicago Press, volume 94 Nr. 1, pp. 127-162 in 2022.
