Your Responsibilities

  • Independent academic research
  • Support for the research and teaching activities of the organisational unit
  • Independent teaching in accordance with the scope of employment

Admission Requirements

  • Completed PhD in political science.
  • Demonstrated experience in the independent design and delivery of university-level courses.
  • Publications in international peer-reviewed journals in the field of European Union politics.
  • Excellent knowledge of political science research methods..
  • Ability to conduct research and teaching in English.
  • Excellent organisational skills.

The application should include the following documents:

  • Letter of motivation, including a research plan for the next five years (max. 3 pages, preferably in English).
  • Curriculum Vitae (including a list of publications and an overview of previous teaching experience).
  • Two selected academic publications.
  • Two letters of recommendation (from professors or experienced researchers familiar with the applicant’s work).

The selection process will be based on an assessment of the submitted application materials. Following an initial review, shortlisted candidates will be invited to an interview. Additional documents may be requested at a later stage of the selection process.

Desired Qualification

  • Familiarity with the relevant academic literature and an independent research profile in one or more of the following areas: European Union institutions; European policy-making and integration; politicisation and contestation in the EU’s multi-level system.
  • Experience in the acquisition and management of research grants.
  • Interest in developing interdisciplinary forms of cooperation within the Salzburg Centre of European Union Studies (SCEUS).
  • Desired personal qualities: social competence and reliability; ability to work in a team; resilience and flexibility, as well as enthusiasm for academic work.

We offer an annual gross salary of at least € 70,200.20 for a fulltime position. An overpayment based on qualification and experience is possible.

The Salzburg Centre of European Union Studies (SCEUS)is a leading interdisciplinary centre for research and teaching on European integration, twice awarded Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence status. Its research covers key EU challenges, from identity crises and contested democracy and rule of law to populism and the EU’s role in an unstable global context. SCEUS brings together scholars from economics, law, history, political science, and psychology, training the next generation of researchers in this interdisciplinary setting.
