The CES European Integration and Global Political Economy Research Network and Comparative European Politics announce their 2023 Paper Prize for Early Career Researchers.
We are delighted to announce the 2023 round of our annual journal article prize competition, in collaboration with the journal Comparative European Politics.
We invite papers from early career researchers that speak to the remit of the network and the journal (see below). We especially encourage scholars to submit papers presented at the CES 29th International Conference of Europeanists in Iceland, but other submissions are also welcome.
Paper submissions for consideration of the prize have to be original, English-language, unpublished work, written during doctoral studies or submitted within three years of the PhD’s completion. Papers cannot be under consideration with another journal, and they should not exceed 8,000 words, including notes and references. Applicants should follow the Instructions for Authors specified by the journal. Applicants should be members of the European Integration and the Global Political Economy Network. The prize jury consists of two members of the network board, as well as a member of the CEP editorial board and an independent reviewer. Please submit your papers to Dr Aneta Spendzharova (a.spendzharova@maastrichtuniversity.nl) by 31 August 2023 at the latest. All papers submitted will be peer-reviewed by our jury and the outcome of the competition will be announced in Autumn 2023. The winning paper will also be fast-tracked for publication in Comparative European Politics, pending any required revisions after peer-review.

Remit of CES Network European Integration and Global Political Economy
This network has a dual focus. It analyzes the extent to which the EU impacts on-going reform dynamics, focusing on the ideational and strategic influence of the EU on key actors, and how they impact countries with differing institutional legacies and contexts. It also focuses on governance and decision-making in a broad range of policy areas, and how these relate to issues of popular legitimacy and contestation in the EU.

Published by Palgrave, Comparative European Politics serves as a scholarly forum for research, theory and debate on the comparative politics and political economy of contemporary Europe within and beyond the European Union, the processes of European integration and enlargement and the place of Europe and European states within international/global political and economic dynamics.
